What's driving The Climatics

We've found our sound. Now we're perfecting the setlist.

The Climatics started with a hunch: that people across Aotearoa want to support climate solutions, they just need a simpler, more accessible way in. In 2025, 73 donors proved us right. This epic community showed up with $103,000 to fund three organisations doing systems-change work.

So yep, this model works. But we're not declaring victory and calling it done. We're in growth mode now. We’re scaling what works, tweaking what doesn't, and building a community of climate givers who want to be part of something bigger than themselves.

What 2026 looks like

This year, we're aiming for two grant rounds of $100,000 each, funding organisations across Aotearoa doing the deep work of climate systems change. We'll be hosting online and community events, staying in conversation with our donors and grantees, and continuing to refine our approach based on what we learn.

The Climatics is built on people power - the idea that when many of us chip in, together we create shifts that none of us could manage alone. Joining now means you're funding climate-positive impact, AND you're helping shape how collective climate giving evolves in Aotearoa.

We're still figuring some things out, and that's all good. We'd rather learn publicly, embrace community feedback, and get better than pretend we have all the answers.

How we choose who to fund

To make the best decisions about where to deploy the money entrusted to us, we work with a carefully chosen Curation Team. This rockstar team brings diverse perspectives and deep expertise in identifying systems-changing climate solutions in Aotearoa that can create outsized results.

One of our core principles is respecting the organisations doing the hard mahi. Charities already spend too many hours on uncertain funding applications. We don't want to add to that burden.

In our first round, we took a proactive approach by mapping the ecosystem then reaching out directly to organisations that aligned with our focus areas. Now we're evolving. For 2026 rounds, we're introducing a light-touch Expression of Interest process and participatory grantmaking where some of our donors can help shape funding decisions, guided by our expert Curation Team.

We're testing what meaningful participation looks like, and we'll keep refining as we learn.

The partnerships that make it possible

Rather than setting up our own charitable trust, we’ve partnered with The Gift Trust, a registered charity that’s been helping donors simplify and amplify their giving since 2009.

Through their Collaborative Fund Service, The Climatics operates with the benefits of a registered charity, without the heavy admin burden.

The Gift Trust:

  • Hosts all funds raised

  • Supports our due diligence process for shortlisted organisations

  • Manages essential admin like issuing tax certificates to donors

  • Makes the final payments from The Climatics fund to the organisations we support

This partnership means we can stay focused on our kaupapa, identifying and vetting the most meaningful organisations and channelling donor funds directly to climate solutions that make a real difference.
